Car Crash on Noriega St.

We were coming home from dinner in West Portal tonight when we came across the very recent aftermath of a head-on collision at Noriega and 19th Avenue near our house. I snapped these video clips with my digital still camera and edited them together once I got home. It was quite impressive to watch these firefighters cut the top off of this car like it was a sardine can. They somehow smashed and removed the front windshield, then opened the hatchback up and proceeded to cut the roof off the car, after which they simply peeled back the roof to expose the trapped victim in the car. These guys and gals earn every penny they make that’s for sure, and it’s good to know they are out there ready to help when needed. We’re still not sure what exactly happened, and we hope the trapped driver is OK, but considering the number of red light runners on 19th Avenue at any given moment, I’m betting someone ran the light on a rainy night, and it ended with a head on collision — ouch! Let’s all take a moment to ponder being on the receiving end of this, so the next time you’re about to run a light kind of late, think twice and don’t do it…

How cool was that?!? I mean, I feel bad for whoever owns the car…but you gotta be impressed with being able to tear it apart.
